The filming locations of BTS music videos in Korea

The filming site of BTS's music video "Save me".

The background of the music video shot with the one-take technique is a horizon that separates the sky and the earth, but no artificial structure to grasp its position is visible at all. On the making film, BTS member (Sugar) swiped a hint about the location with the words "Here is Jeonbuk Buan?" Since then, there has been a lot of fan inquiries at the Buan County Office. However, they also did not know that BTS had visited.

In the eyes of the outsiders, it seems like an open space, but a Buan native saw the music video and quickly spotted the location. The location was a reclaimed land in front of the Saemangeum public relations center in Daehang-ri, Byeonsan-myeon, Buan-gun. When I visited the center, I could guess why it was difficult to identify the place where the film was taken. The reclaimed land is a land that has not even gotten an 'address' yet. If you run the Maps app on your smartphone, it just shows up floating over the ocean.

Saemangeum reclaimed land was created by building the world's longest (33.9 km) Saemangeum seawall connecting Buan and Gunsan. In 1991, the construction of the watershed began, and the sea area of 29,100 square meters was filled with the earth. The mudflats that picked up lilies and clams turned into spacious grasslands.

BTS visited the reclaimed land at least twice. In 2016, they shot a music video in front of Gyehwa Island and Seokbul Mountain (289m). They shot a new album photo released this year in the field next to Saemangeum Dike. The distance between two points is about 200m.

In order to visit the Saemangeum reclaimed land, first you should set the Saemangeum PR center as the destination. At the turning intersection in front of the Saemangeum Public Relations Center, you will go to the harbor entrance to the reclaimed landing area. It is better to walk after parking the car at the beginning of the ramp. It is in the middle of nowhere with no roads. There is no manager to receive admission, and there is no restroom or kiosk. It is said that the 'World Jamboree Competition' will be held at the Saemangeum reclamation area in 2023, and there will be some facilities for travelers in the vicinity.

The music video starts with a scene where a BTS member 'V' waits for a train on the platform. The song title is Spring Day, but the background is winter. He jumped up a little railroad track with his eyes closed and listened to the rails and heard a train whistle. This scene was shot at the small station called "il-young" in YanJu, Gyeonggi province.

It is 40 minutes by car from Seoul City Hall to the station. As soon as you reach the village "Simsang-ri", you can see the old train station. Passenger service at the station has stopped in 2004. Currently, only the freight trains pass by.

The manager of the station Kim Jongwoon told me an unexpected story. These days, the station is very lively with tourists with travel luggages who seems to have just arrived at Incheon International Airport. Kim smiled saying, "It became my important job to take pictures of travelers without a tripod." "The background of the music video is winter, so when the snow falls, the number of visitors increases," he added.

KORAIL has been pleased that the station became very popular to travelers who love Korean culture but at the same time they advise to be careful. Especially, like the music video scene, if you put your face on the rails and get burned in the summer, and you can get hurt in the winter. Individual trips do not matter, but a commercial visit, such as a group visit to a photo community or shooting for a shopping mall, must be approved by KORAIL.

Back to 'Spring Day'. The music video was full of impressive scenery. The scene which BTS member 'Jimin' walked on the white sandy beach freely caught the eyes of the fans. The same sea appears on the cover of the album 'You Never Walk Alone'. Seven boys are sitting on the bus stop at the beach in the spring sun.

Fans tracked the location and found the sea with the panoramic horizon is East Sea and narrowed the range from the East Sea to the Gangneung Jumunjin Beach in Gangwon Province. Kim Joo-hyun, an officer of the Jumunjin-eup Office, who watched the filming of BTS, specified the place. The filming location is Jumunjin Beach which located in Hyanghyo-ri, and the exact photographing location is 8-54 Hyanghyo-ri. They installed the bus stop 400m away from the parking lot of the Jumunjin Beach, and removed the structure after shooting.

What is interesting is that the bus stop of BTS may appear in the Jumunjin beach again. Gangneung City starts planing to recreate the bus stop of BTS.

Another spot of BTS tour is Mosan Airfield in Goam-dong, Jecheon-si, Chungbuk Province. The pavement appearing in the 'Epilogue Young Forever' music video is the runway. Like the lyrics of 'Fall and hurt, run endlessly', members walk around the runway without hesitation.

Mosan Airfield was built in 1955 for military purposes. Though the air fighters would have come and gone for a while, now there is no control tower. The airport is owned by the Ministry of National Defense, unlike other military facilities, there are no barbed wire or "no access" signs.

There is no restraint, photo ban. However, it is not displayed on the map with searching "Mosan airport" due to military facility. You can set the name like ' Uirimji Community Center' as your destination in the navigation. The airfield is right in front of the town hall center.
